Chronomètre à Résonance
Two balances that stabilise one another
The Résonance is F.P. Journe's technical signature: two independent movements whose balances regulate each other through resonance. A principle known since Breguet, but never before produced in series.
The evolution of the Chronomètre à Résonance
After years of prototyping, Journe presented the Chronomètre à Résonance in 2000 — the first series-produced wristwatch to exploit the resonance principle.
Two complete gear trains with their own balances run close enough together to synchronise through minute vibration transfer. This partially offsets external disturbances.
The dial shows two separate displays, originally twice 12 hours, later also with a 24-hour display on the second side as a travel function.
In 2020, to mark the 20th anniversary, a revised generation followed with a remontoir d'égalité and a new dial architecture.

What to look for when buying
- 01
The Résonance is the manufacture's most technically demanding series watch; servicing should be entrusted exclusively to the maison.
- 02
Early brass-movement examples from the first years are the most sought-after versions.
- 03
Service history must be checked with every offer — a misadjusted resonance is detectable in the rate performance.
