Vacheron Constantin
Uninterrupted watchmaking since 1755
Vacheron Constantin is the oldest manufacture in the world to have worked without interruption. Over more than 270 years it has produced watches that prize craft and restraint above effect — from the Patrimony to the Overseas.
The evolution of Vacheron Constantin
In 1755 Jean-Marc Vacheron signed the apprenticeship contract of his first assistant in Geneva — the oldest surviving document of the manufacture and also its founding date. Production has never paused since.
In 1819 François Constantin joined as a partner. From him comes the still-quoted maxim to do better if possible, and that is always possible. The company has traded as Vacheron & Constantin ever since.
In 1880 the house adopted the Maltese cross as its emblem, originally a component used to limit spring tension. In 1979 the Kallista, set with 118 diamonds, caused a sensation, and in 1996 the first Overseas appeared as a sporty line with an integrated bracelet.
Vacheron Constantin has belonged to the Richemont Group since 1996. The Les Cabinotiers department creates one-off pieces to client commission, and the Geneva Seal (Poinçon de Genève) is standard across much of the collection.

- 01
The Overseas now accounts for most of the brand's secondary-market demand, particularly in steel with the quick-change system of the second and third generation.
- 02
Classic models such as the Patrimony and Traditionnelle trade moderately relative to their craftsmanship — an argument for collectors focused on substance rather than hype.
- 03
Historiques reinterpretations such as the 222 are heavily limited. For these references, complete documentation of the original delivery is decisive for value.
