The evolution of Bulgari
In 1884 the Greek silversmith Sotirio Bulgari opened his first shop in Rome. From a focus on ancient and Byzantine jewellery forms grew a language of its own: coloured gemstones, clear geometries and a confident, often architectural presence.
In 1948 the first Serpenti watch appeared, with its spiral-form Tubogas bracelet. The snake became a mobile piece of jewellery, treating watch and jewel as a single object rather than separate ones.
In 2000 Bulgari acquired the manufacture Gérald Genta, expanding its expertise in haute horlogerie. In 2012 came the Octo, whose octagonal architecture became, in the years that followed, a platform for ever-thinner manufacture calibres.
With the Octo Finissimo, Bulgari set several world records for ultra-thin mechanical watches from 2014 onward. The brand has belonged to the LVMH Group since 2011 and produces its haute horlogerie calibres in Le Sentier.
