Portofino
Schaffhausen's quieter side
The Portofino is IWC's most classical line: a flat round case, a clean dial, no sporting embellishments. It is the brand's watch for the suit and for everyday life alike.
The evolution of the Portofino
In 1984 IWC introduced the first Portofino, inspired by a Lépine-calibre pocket watch with moon phase from the 1950s.
The name refers to the Ligurian fishing village — a statement of intent for a line built on restraint rather than technical display.
Over the years the family grew to include hand-wound models with eight-day power reserve, chronographs, moon phases and a dedicated ladies' collection.
What remained constant was the flat case with a narrow bezel and long, straight lugs.

What to look for when buying
- 01
The line is well represented on the secondary market; condition, case size and completeness are the deciding factors.
- 02
Milanese bracelets are prone to distortion and should be checked for even drape.
- 03
Hand-wound models with the eight-day movement are more sought after among connoisseurs than the automatic variants.
